The M’OUD Story: From a Honeymoon in Dubai to a Perfume House in Zürich

Many perfume houses are born from market analyses. M’OUD was born from a feeling.
A scent that felt like home
Maya Wally grew up in a family where fragrance and fashion were a language. The resinous scent of agarwood was part of daily life, of celebration and of memory. When she made Switzerland her home, that scent came with her, and she noticed how little known real oud was there.
Dubai, 2014
The idea took shape in 2014, on Maya and Ali’s honeymoon in Dubai. From the first moment, fragrance was everywhere, not as a product but as a presence. In the gold souk the air carried warm clouds of oud and bakhoor. In the hotel lobby a signature scent welcomed them like a quiet greeting. In the corridors of a mosque, sandalwood and rose seemed to linger in the walls. At a rooftop dinner, a neighbour’s perfume told a story before a word was spoken.
In the Emirates, fragrance is not simply worn; people live in it. It is woven into hospitality, prayer, celebration and the everyday. In Europe, fragrance had become a finishing touch, something you spray and forget. Here it was architecture, emotion and identity. Maya returned to Switzerland with one question: what if fragrance could create that same feeling of presence there?
Years of work
She did not want a copy of the Gulf tradition, but something of its own: Middle Eastern soul, Swiss precision. For years she worked on the idea alongside everything else, learning agarwood in depth: its grades, its origins, its maturation, and the natural oud from Trat, Thailand that M’OUD uses today.
Founded in Zürich, 2022
In 2022 the years of work became a company: M’OUD Switzerland, founded in Zürich by Maya and Ali Wally. Maya is co-founder and creative director; Ali is managing director and co-founder. The fragrance that started it all carries the word that describes how it was built: Amal, hope. Oud Amal Intense was composed by Maya, with oud, frankincense and vanilla, matured for six months in Switzerland and made as an edition of 1,000 numbered flacons.
The collection grew with Soleil Levant, Amber Mirage and D’Or Davana, composed by perfumer Patrick Müller. All four are extraits de parfum at 30 to 35 percent.
Swiss made, Middle Eastern soul
Switzerland does not change the oud. It adds precision, consistency and craft. Since 2024 M’OUD has carried the Swiss Label, the crossbow mark protected by an independent association since 1917, which confirms Swiss origin and manufacturing.
One Bottle. One Tree.
Agarwood comes from the Aquilaria tree, a species under pressure from overharvesting. Through the partnership with One Tree Planted, one tree is planted for every 100 ml flacon sold. The material that started everything is the one M’OUD gives back to.
What comes next
The collection grows deliberately, and the philosophy stays the same: natural oud, Swiss precision and respect for the material. Every flacon carries the memory it began with: the warmth of the souks, the quiet of sacred spaces, golden evenings where scent and light became one. True luxury is not about what others see. It is about what you feel.
