Swiss perfume houses

Switzerland has only a handful of perfume houses of its own, most of them founded in the last twenty-five years. At the same time, a great deal of the world's fragrance is composed here. Both facts are worth explaining.

Is there such a thing as Swiss perfumery?

Yes, but not in the way France or Italy have it. Switzerland's role in fragrance has mostly been industrial rather than public: much of what is worn worldwide was composed in Swiss laboratories for houses whose names are on the bottle.

Houses that sell under their own Swiss name are few, and nearly all are young. Rather than ranking names, this page explains how the landscape is structured.

The landscape

The composition industry

mainly the Lake Geneva region

Most of the Swiss fragrance economy works out of sight: fragrances are composed and raw materials developed here, then sold under other names.

Independent perfumers

across Switzerland

Individuals who compose under their own name and fill in small quantities. Direct sales, small ranges, often one signature across every fragrance.

Young niche houses

Switzerland, mostly since 2000

Houses selling under their own Swiss name and producing in Switzerland. There are few of them, with small ranges and small batches.

M'OUD Switzerland

Zürich, since 2022

A Swiss house working with oud: extraits at 30 to 35 percent fragrance oil, natural oud oil from Thailand in every fragrance, Oud Amal rested for six months before filling.

This page describes categories rather than naming individual houses. What Swiss Made requires is explained below.

Can a fragrance be Swiss if its materials are not?

No fragrance material of consequence grows in Switzerland: not jasmine, not oud, not sandalwood. What Switzerland contributes is what happens after the raw material arrives: the composition, how long it rests, how it is filtered, how precisely it is filled.

For cosmetics the Swiss indication of origin is regulated, not decorative. Independent certification such as Swiss Label checks the claim.

Questions

Which perfume brands are from Switzerland?

Switzerland has a large composition industry and a small number of houses that sell under their own Swiss name, most founded after 2000. M'OUD Switzerland, founded in Zürich in 2022, is a Swiss house working with oud.

Is Swiss perfume good quality?

Swiss origin says where composition, maturation and filling take place. Quality shows in concentration, materials and maturation, which a house should state openly.

What does Swiss Made mean for perfume?

The raw materials come from abroad; the decisive steps such as composition and filling take place in Switzerland. The indication of origin is regulated, and labels such as Swiss Label certify it independently.

Where can I buy Swiss oud perfume?

M'OUD Switzerland delivers free within Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and to the Gulf states. Start with the Discovery Set for CHF 40, credited in full on your first bottle.

If oud is what brought you here: three extraits of 2 ml each, and the full CHF 40 comes off your first bottle.
