The Concentration Spectrum
When choosing a fragrance, concentration matters more than almost any other factor. It determines how long a scent lasts, how it projects, and how it evolves on your skin.
Here is the standard classification: Eau de Cologne sits at 2–5% (2–3 hours), Eau de Toilette at 5–15% (3–5 hours), Eau de Parfum at 15–20% (5–8 hours), and Extrait de Parfum at 20–40% (8–24+ hours).
Why Extrait de Parfum Is Different
Extrait de Parfum (also called Parfum or Pure Perfume) represents the pinnacle of fragrance craftsmanship. At 20–40% fragrance oil concentration, every spray delivers a richer, more nuanced experience.
Longevity
Where an Eau de Toilette might fade after a few hours, an Extrait de Parfum can last 12–24 hours on skin and even longer on fabric. The higher oil concentration means the scent molecules bind more effectively to your skin.
Projection & Sillage
Contrary to what many expect, extraits often project more intimately. The scent stays closer to the body, creating an aura rather than announcing itself across the room. This makes them ideal for close encounters and personal spaces.
Evolution
With more fragrance oils, an extrait has more complexity to unfold. The top, heart, and base notes have room to develop naturally over hours — revealing new facets as the day progresses.
Value
While the upfront cost is higher, you need fewer sprays per application (2–3 vs. 5–8 for an EdT). A high-concentration extrait often outlasts a larger bottle of Eau de Parfum.

How to Apply Extrait de Parfum
1. Pulse points: Apply to wrists, neck, and behind the ears
2. Don’t rub: Let the fragrance breathe and develop naturally
3. Less is more: 2–3 sprays are sufficient for all-day presence
4. Layer wisely: For maximum longevity, apply to moisturised skin
The higher concentration means your fragrance becomes part of you — not just something you wear, but something you inhabit.
